Originally, Mainstream Support for AX 2009 was actually due to expire on 14 August 2013 – however, Microsoft pushed this date back, so that Mainstream Support expires as of 14 April 2014 and the Extended Support phase begins. We are repeatedly asked what exactly "Mainstream Support" is and how it differs from "Extended Support". Here is a brief overview: From mid-April 2015, Microsoft will only provide security-relevant updates for AX 2009 – unless the customer has a "Premier Support" contract directly with Microsoft (see below). This means that no product updates in the form of features, enhancements or hotfixes (non-security-relevant) will be made available. The procedure for support requests also changes – from this point on, they are always chargeable. A "Premier Support" contract results, among other things, in a TAM (Technical Account Manager), who analyses and resolves pending issues in direct collaboration with the customer. It also forms the basis for 24×7 support from Microsoft. The Extended Support phase runs until 9 October 2018 – after that, AX 2009 is no longer supported.
