There are many ways to create journals in D365FO. Some are faster than others, but are less flexible or require more elaborate data preparation. In my view, there is no single best solution. Reason enough to compare the various options for once. I would like to look at the following options: Create a journal manually in D365FO Create / adjust a journal via the Excel add-in Import a journal via the Data Management Framework Import a journal via Electronic Reporting The term „entity“ is used several times in this article. At the end of this post I will go into more detail on this. 1) Create a journal manually in D365FO The simple and also quick way to create individual postings. Advantages: Simple, and all variations are possible Posting single-line entries, splitting across multiple lines, accruals, … Journal and voucher / document numbers are monitored and assigned by the system Validation of the data by the system already during entry Disadvantages: Efficient entry of many lines requires a relatively large amount of patience and time Copy/paste from other programs is not possible 2) Create / adjust a journal via the Excel add-in Combine the strengths of Excel and D365FO! The user creates a journal in D365FO and opens it for editing in Excel. Various templates can be provided to users for the individual journals. In these templates, the columns to be filled in are predefined. A lookup (preview) for individual values (account numbers / dimensions / …) is also available. This makes it easy to transfer data from other programs into D365FO using copy/paste. A «Publish button» loads the data back into the system via the respective entity. The user then checks the data in D365FO and can post it. Advantages: Easy import of transactions into D365FO Copy/paste from other systems is relatively easy No technical knowledge is required from users Up to 1 million lines can be exported / imported this way.
